Keysone 1st Annual Groundhog Day Dodgeball Tournament

What a success!!!! Keystone Rugby Club's first annual dodgeball tournament started with a bang yesterday. I had entered a team called DDT consisting of a mix of my law school friends, grad school friends, and rugby friends. We were pumped and ready to go with high hopes of winning. Unfortunately for us, our first game was against my roommate SP's team which consisted of some hard throwing guys and SP's brother who plays dodgeball for real. We took a game off of them but lost the match.

A few of my teammates - TT, EF, JN

We then faced the least sportsmanlike team there - the IUP Alumni. These guys threw hard, aimed high, never left the court when they were hit, kicked balls back to their own team and basically pissed everyone off. Which I guess was their goal. Needless to say, we lost that one.
Now the double elimination rounds begin and let me tell you, I could not throw a ball anymore. Already. My arm was pretty much totally dead!

In the first round we played some gray team. Don't know their name, but we lost. So now we were in the losers bracket. We had a brief tetam meeting where we resolved to win it all from the losers bracket, and then we took on Octagon - the Nerd Herd. We managed to stick it out and win 3 games to 2!!!! The first match we've won all day. We were still alive!!

But the luck of the draw was against us as we had to face The Short Bus in our next round and they just outlasted us. But this time the balls I threw were just arcing slowly with no oomph or anything. We were tired but proud. DDT had won a match!!! We stuck around to the end to watch MR's team take it all and collect their prizes - miniature groundhog ceramic statues!! Then we headed over to the Pour House in East Falls for the social. A big thanks to the Pour House for their hospitality and a great social.

All in all, it was a great tournament, a great day, I think all the teams had fun, and if anybody is interested in entering a team next year, I'm sure we'll be having the 2nd Annual Groundhog Day Dodgeball Tournament.
