The British are obsessed with death by fire

I'm in England for the Women's Rugby World Cup. I like England, quite a bit, although the weather could be nicer. Anyway, I love their signs.

The first sign that greets us as we come into our dorm/flats is "This door left open could kill you. FIRE DOOR - KEEP CLOSED." Turn the corner and another sign says "If you are caught smoking, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action to put you out." There are fire symbols and pictures EVERYWHERE and very blunt - refreshingly blunt - signage indicating death will occur if some precaution is not taken.

I rather like the way the British tell you things - there's no room for guessing. And outside of their obsession with death by fire, they like to put up other signs like "Elderly people here." Can't mistake that - there are old people here.
