Hiking in Queensland

We also went hiking up in Lamington National Park on the southern border of Queensland, just north of New South Wales. It's only about 84 kilometers from Brisbane, but took 2 hours to get there because of the climb up this mountain and all the switchbacks. The GPS didn't even recognize that we were on a road!

This is rainforest country!! We hiked a trail to Picnic Rock and then Elebana Falls, the most photographed falls in the park. We also hiked along a tree top rope bridge in the rainforest canopy!

We were in for a treat, as just 5 minutes into the walk we saw a land mullet (large black lizard), then about 100 meters down the trail a huge snake!!

Once we got to Picnic Rock, we had lunch by the creek and found blue spiny cray fish! These things are amazing! Bright blue with spines and claws - they crawl from rainforest stream to rainforest stream and will hiss and snap at you if they feel threatened!

There were heaps of birds and a strange unidentifiable jumping thing as well. What a beautiful place!
