Things I Love #74 - Dollar Stores

I really love dollar stores. REAL dollar stores, not the ones that SAY dollar store but then really charge you $4.99 for some things. There is a real dollar store in Suburban Station - Dollar Express. This place is amazing. Like a Super Walmart packed into a small retail space in the underground train station. You can get groceries - entire frozen dinners for $1! You can get greeting cards - 2 for $1! That's unheard of, with Hallmark charging $4.29 for their banal birthday wishes. There are cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, kitchen ware and utensils, vases and fake flowers. Everything.

Everything including party supplies. And this is where this post turns sour. They had all sorts of party supplies, EXCEPT party hats. Now, this wouldn't be so unusual if not for my (and others') previous unsuccessful attempts to acquire a good set of party hats for any occasion. It seems the party hat has fallen out of favor. Target has no hats, the dollar store has no hats, the grocery stores have no hats, Walmart has no hats. No, that's not true. Walmart had a few hats, with some random stupid pink character that people call child entertainment these days.

The point is, WHERE THE HECK ARE THE PARTY HATS???

A lawsuit was probably filed against the party hat industry causing all party hats to be recalled - or worse, made unpointy (have you seen those ridiculous ones that look like upside down cups?). I'm sure it was a terrible pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey accident that put the final nail in the pointy party hat coffin. A child pinning the tail tripped over a fallen pinata and got his little friend right in the eye. Chaos ensued. Result? No more pointy hats.

Come to think of it when's the last time you saw a pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey game at the dollar store??

I thought we saw the unpointy hats together? Or were they actually cups that we were going to make into hats? Now I'm confused....
