My New Skill

So it's been a while since I've actually learned a NEW skill. I was starting to think I was completely inept at life. But it appears that there's still hope for me yet! I've taken up sewing. It all started when I had to order these pants online for our USA Rugby National Team banquet outfit, for lack of a better description.

For those of you who know me, you know that I NEVER order pants online. Short people with "curves" just don't do that if they want the pants to fit. Anyway, they were only available online. So I had to take what I got. And what I got was a pair of pants with no belt loops and 4 inches too long. So I decided to take things into my own hands. First I hemmed them...after about 18 calls to my mom and a few crooked sew lines later, I had the perfect length pants. Next came the belt loops - these were a little easier, since I had gotten more familiar with the sewing machine.

So my friend ANTM decided to take sewing lessons at the Red House in East Falls. They have a page on Facebook and are a non-profit organization that teaches sewing to kids in schools...and adults. Well after two lessons, ANTM and I had two beautiful purses to show for our efforts. Here's a pic of us with our instructor and one of my pretty purse! Thanks Red House!!!
