A cruise on the Mekong

Friday morning I left HCMC to go to Chau Doc and onward to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This involved a few transfers of bus and boat, but it was all fun! I took a boat tour of the floating markets in Cai Be, Vietnam. Basically, people's whole lives revolve around the river, which is super wide, fluctuates drastically in depth, and I've heard has some alligators! They all build their houses on stilts, bathe and do laundry in the river, and fish in little wooden boats.

I spent the night in a floating hotel in Chau Doc and then hopped on a fast boat to Phnom Penh after a quick tour of the Muslim community in Chau Doc. The boat ride was fantastic. It was a beautiful day, I sat outside on the open air part of the boat and just took it all in. The MEkong is pretty cool, and it goes all the way up into Laos and probably further (the map I have runs out after that...). How fun would it be to cruise the whole Mekong!?!?!
