People are so rude!

Since I'm still wearing my walking cast boot, and since it was pouring rain this morning and flooding, I decided to forgo fashion in favor of avoiding trench foot. I put a plastic bag over my boot. This, I thought, was GENIUS! And I went about starting my day with a big smile on my face and singing Christmas carols out loud.

I took the bus downtown and had a few blocks to walk from the stop to my office. Fortunately, I can walk straight into Suburban Station from my bus stop, walk a few blocks through the station avoiding the rain, and then only have about a block to go in the rain to my office.

As I was walking, I got several glances with quick looks away. These are the people who think they've done something bad by inadvertently glancing at something weird on, or attached to, your body. If you knew them, they'd probably say "sorry" like it was some sort of sin to look at a person dragging a foot with a plastic bag on it laughing hysterically and signing Christmas carols to herself.

Then there are the people who just keep staring. And sometimes their facial expressions change from passive to disdain, shock, wonderment. They keep staring as your walk by, so that if you DID have a deformity or some sort of issue, you'd probably feel self-conscious. These are the people I stared back at, laughing.

Then I had one guy, dressed in a bow tie and standing on the stairs under the Comcast Center, point at me excitedly and say, "I get it, I got it, nice, nice," all the while bobbing his head up and down in agreement with my genius. This is when I knew it would be a good day!
