I like to listen to NPR. The local station in Philadelphia is WHYY, which always has what I would call interesting programs during daytime listening hours - Morning Edition, BBC News Hour, Radio Times, Here and Now, Talk of the Nation, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, etc.
So naturally, the first radio station I tried to find when I got in the car here in Alabama was the local NPR. I found it alright. Just in time for the last few minutes of anything interesting, and the start of what would turn out to be a seemingly endless stream of jazz music.
Doing some investigative work this morning, I discovered the local NPR station here in Florence is WQPR. So I decided to take a look at the program guide to see how long I would have to wait to hear something other than jazz music. Turns out jazz plays 8 out of the 24 hours of the day on WQPR.
ONE THIRD of the day, including from 9am-12pm, is JAZZ MUSIC. Very educational and informative. I'm suprised they don't have a program on air titled "Behind the Times" anchored by W.E.R. Boring.
