This weekend I was in Baltimore for the Rites of Spring Rugby Tournament. I would have been excited except for the weather forecast: Rain the whole weekend. Blech.
Saturday started early – 5:30am, yippy! – with only AB in a decent mood because that’s her normal start time for the day. It rained the whole way down. And the fields weren’t in exactly the best neighborhood of Baltimore. Luckily a few of our teammates had tents so we all crammed ourselves under two tents and got ready for the day. Three games and three wins later, we weren’t too worse for the wear and all headed off to get cleaned up. At this point
I then met up with my friend from high school JB and her husband DB. DB was from Baltimore, so he took us on a bit of a driving tour before we stopped at a crab shack near Ft. McHenry (“Oh say can you see….”). I had my first crab cake!! Delicious. Then we drove around more of the city, through Johns Hopkins and out to Loyola, passing by some pretty sweet mansions. Finally we ended at Vaccaro’s pastry shop where I stuffed my face with dessert. Great evening.
I stopped by the social, but was distracted with my concern and obsession about Penn State playing Stanford for the National Championship – they STOMPED them 46-7. Congrats girls!!
Sunday saw even more rain. Two cancelations, a field change, and a late start to our final made it a little difficult to get into the mentality, but we went out there and won the Rites of Spring Tournament! Unfortunately, the field was a cesspool of slop and mud, and we drove a good portion of the way home caked in it. At least I got a decent facial from my mud mask!
