I'm sorry, I watched both football games today and I have to say the referees were truly horrendous. I can't even think of words that are strong enough to express my hatred for the officiating crews. Not only were they inconsistent, but it could be argued that a couple key officiating calls determined the outcome of the game. Or at least heavily influenced the score.
I'm of the belief that referees are there to FACILITATE a PLAYER'S game. But when referees make calls that substantially influence the outcome of the game, it takes the game out of the realm of real competition and the sport no longer can be classified as "sport."*
It is infuriating watching it. It is infuriating playing in it. There is nothing more disgusting to me than a referee who has a sense of entitlement - someone who thinks it is "his/her" game to determine.
I'm angry.
*Lately I'm also inclined to consider "sport" something in which there is no subjective scoring component.
