Apparently Oklahoma hasn't done too good a job. Oklahoma senior basketball star Courtney Paris blurted out at senior week that if the Sooners didn't win the national championship, she'd give her scholarship back to the school. This scholarship has been valued by some at about $64,000, but because she's an out of stater, there's debate that it may be worth close to $100,000.
Now, first of all, in times like these, why in the WORLD would you offer to pay back a free education?? I understand her intent was to rally the troops, inspire her team, etc. etc. etc. I even heard part of her interview on NPR - "I had been thinking about it a little bit before senior week, but when I got up there to talk, I just said it! Ha he ha ha." Yes, funny.
But COME ON. Isn't that kind of insane? And possibly even like betting on collegiate sports?
Anyway, last night Oklahoma took on Louisville in the semi-finals. I turned the game on, interested to see this Courtney Paris, and got sucked into a great game. OK pulled out to an immense lead in the first half, only to be completely stifled in the second half. Courtney Paris wasn't too impressive. At one point the commentator said "Courtney Paris isn't too good of a shooter, but she always gets her own rebound." I'm not entirely sure that is a complement.
In the end, OK lost. Courtney is now at least $64,000 in debt to a university that arguably didn't pass on any common sense.

Would that be considered a verbal contract? Maybe she could start a fund for a public speaking class for athletes...
I'm sure that's considered philathropy.
