A bunch of sugar and stuff

Yesterday I ate about 7 little Dove chocolate with almond thingies for dinner. The ones with the wrappers that have stuff written on the inside. Out of the 7, I got three that said "You look good in red." I must look good in red.

Yesterday I also ate 2 pieces of cake when I attended a lab meeting for my old life - my graduate "career" in environmental science. GSB has returned to the States so we had a welcome back cake. Of course my two pieces were the corner ones with all the icing!

I also learned about Bioko Island. Bioko Island is a small island off the coast of West Africa belonging to Equatorial Guinea - the only Spanish speaking country in Africa. Leatherbacks nest here so one of my friends is doing research there. She lives in a tent and patrols the beach. I learned also that there is a large monkey meat market there where you can get $200+ for one monkey. Of course they are endangered, and it is illegal to hunt them, but it happens anyway.

I also learned something else interesting. In Bioko they eat "gron bif." Which, when you say it, sounds quite like ground beef - a nice little beef patty. BUT, not so. Gron bif is actually litterally "ground meat" - ground as in the ground that we walk on, and meat as in a very large rat. So note to self, don't ever go to Bioko Island and ask for gron bif.

My vocabulary today is quite bad today.

Dear Penguin Files,

Does your program at Biokou Island accept volunteers? I have always wanted to be a volunteer. I like volunteers. I think I'm one of them.
