Follow up

So I decided to remove that dead cockroach from my kitchen last night when I got home, but to my surprise, when I went to pick it up, it's little legs went 100 mph!!! It was still alive!!!! The poor bugger was stuck to some sticky spot on the floor. Which prompts another question, how was it moving so slowly that it got stuck on a sticky spot...on its back???

This mystery is really confusing me.

so...your cockroach story reminds me of an internal dialog I had with myself when on a drive out to the country one day...

*DISCLAIMER: I have taken a lot of cold medicine this morning and have only had about 30min of sleep*

I was speeding along, enjoying the sun and fresh air and general "greenness" of the countryside when out of nowhere a squirrel, its jowls filled with yummy squirrel things, failed to look both ways, and stepped out in front of my tire. With no time to swerve, his little body hit my tire full force, which flung him underneath the car and tumbling down the street behind me.

I watched in my rear view mirror as he lay lifeless behind me. It's not like I could go back and perform squirrel CPR. And its also not like I'm a vegetarian or a bleeding heart animal rights activist or anything like that. Hell, I barely bat an eye when I watch the news and learn of all the horrible stuff that happens to humans everyday, let alone one measly little squirrel.

At any rate...I could not stop thinking about his story. Where was he going, what were his plans for the day? I'm sure for a squirrel, finding food is like the bestest thing ever, so he must have been pretty stoked about the fullness of his cheeks, strolling home to empty and refill, when WAM!!!! The life was knocked out of his little squirrel body faster than the blink of an eye...

Or was it? was he still conscious as the end came? was it instantaneous?? who knows....All I know is that this squirrel got me thinking a lot about the fragility of life, and our delusions of invincibility.

Moral of the story:

Don't save your acorns for later - you never know when you'll be hit by a truck.

you have to watch out for those "dead" cockroaches (cockroachi?) on the floor...often times they will remain motionless until you prod them with something and sometimes they will just disappear all together.
