So I was watching ESPN this morning and caught the "personal story" section. This one was particularly interesting because it involved an amputation. Trevor Wikre, a football player at Mesa State College, decided to amputate his pinkie so he could finish his senior year of football.
Apparently Wikre had one of those fractures where the bone sticks right out of the skin. He went to the emergency room where he was informed he would have to have extensive surgery, pins to stablize the finger, and about 6 months of rehab before he could use it again.
Wikre's comments were along these lines: I didn't want to be in the emergency room any longer. I had stuff to do that night. I had to go to class, and I had a date with my fiancee - she was making me my favorite dinner and we were going to watch my new favorite movie Iron Man. I told the doctor that I wanted it amputated. I wasn't prepared to have already played my last football game. He said I was being dramatic.
Needless to say, the doctor agreed that amputation was possible. So he cut Wikre's finger off and 6 days later Wikre was out on the field for Mesa State's next football game.
As my rugby club enters playoff season, I think, how far would I go to play in our playoff games? How far would YOU go???

That doesn't even sound legal. I think that doctor could be sued for malpractice.
Not that far.
