Cruising Liechtenstein!

Today my new friend Joe and I rented a car and drove on the autobahn (up to 200K/hr!!) the 220km from Munich to medieval Feldkirch, Austria. First time in Austria! Feldkirch is cool - there's a medieval castle on the hill, an alpine river running through it, and snow capped alps in the background. We found a hotel that rents bikes (7.50 Euros for 6 hours!) and went on our way!!

We had originally planned a route that looked less steep, but somehow took a wrong turn and ended up going up a 22% grade (for those that don't know, that's REALLY steep when you're on a bike!) into the hills of Austria/Liechtenstein. We made it through the Liechtenstein check point, cycled up some more, surrounded by the Alps above and the Rhine Valley below. All of the houses were these cute wooden structures with covered balconies and flower boxes on porches. We went down the mountain in Liechtenstein on the back gravel roads, through cow and sheep pastures. Liechtenstein has the highest per capita GDP in the world, at $122,000!!! Check out the CIA World Fact Book page for more interesting details. It's a beautiful place!

We ended up crossing the bridge into Switzerland and rode along the Rhine back to Austria and Feldkirch, where we had some coffee before heading back to Munich. All in all, three countries in one day - fantastic!!!
