Giant's Causeway

This afternoon we took a trip up the northern coast of Northern Ireland. It was a bit of a strange day - super sunny at one point, gusty winds next, frightful rain, then sunny again. Repeat. But the day was fantastic and the Giant's Causeway was very interesting.

A volcano erupted up here and the lava cooled to form these hexagonal columns of rock that all fit together like honeycombs. Some of them have 4, 5, 7, or 8 sides, but most of them are hexagonal and jut out of the ocean to form a staggering site. The legend is that the giant Finn MacCool created these formations while fighting is nemesis Scottish Benandonner.

I managed to make it down the hill in the sun, but got caught in a torrential rain and wind storm at the bottom!! Fortunately, I hid behind some of the "pipes" for protection and weathered out the storm!
