Sweden and Sigtuna

Who would have thought I'd ever get to Sweden!?!?! Well I'm here, having a wonderful time with my friends and hosts JdM and his wife KdM. They live in a cute little summer cabin in the Swedish countryside. I was actually surprised to find a very colorful countryside in Sweden. Not really sure what I was expecting, but there are lots of birch trees with bright yellow leaves now that it's autumn and some red maples thrown in there with the fir trees. The woods are clear of underbrush (quite a contrast to Alabama); although imagine my dismay (terror!!!) when my hosts told me to check for ticks!!! The tiny pinhead sized ones!!!! I almost freaked.

While in Sweden I visited Sigtuna, Sweden's first town basically. Founded in the late AD 900s, this town has the oldest street in Sweden and was the site of Sweden's first mint! It also has several rune stones and is situated on a beautiful lake.
