Exciting!

I bought a new bike! I decided that a new bike would be my end of school/birthday gift. Not that my scraper bike isn't the best - it is, it just doesn't like to take long trips, and the ghetto crate on the back isn't exactly aerodynamic. So I needed (wanted) a decent road bike to take longer rides for fitness and fun. I'm excited!!

In other exciting news, my friend IR has once again been selected to represent the US with the US women's 7s team, this time in the Amsterdam 7s tournament. She left last weekend for a week filled with diligent training, hard work, and intense rugby (and a trip to Anne Frank's house). Stay away from the pot and red lit windows!!

I've never really understood the lure of Amsterdam. I've been there, and it's quite a cool city. But I guess what Amsterdam is known for isn't really my bag...except maybe the fact that there are lots of bikes everywhere!!! It's the bike capital of Europe! I wonder what the bike capital of the other continents are? If you have any educated guesses let me know.

Anyway, good luck IR! I'm off for a bike ride.

PS. If you check out the hyperlink on "bikes" - I want to still be riding a bike like that old lady when I grow up!

I think the bike capital of North America might be Portland, Oregon. There are bike paths on every road there and racks in front of every destination. Plus they do bike share programs and it's very flat with consistent weather. That's my theory for North America.

C'mon, post the picture of the bike. It's beauty-full!

In worse news, I just saw this post at Cranky Fitness on how important bike fit is, including why women should not buy men's bikes. Oops? Nah, I'm sure it will be fine.

jens, thanks for the article. but i don't think i'll have any problems. i bought a really small bike...it's for short people. and i ride with my seat way high because i hate not being able to straighten my legs...i feel like the wicked witch. and i can always just buy a different seat if mine is uncomfortable. and i don't think i have a problem of narrow shoulders....

Aaaah! I was thinking about buying a bike at some point, but I'm intimidated by the process. Bike buying is haaaaard -- here's the topic again at SmarterFitter:
